Alumna Presents Paper at African Studies Conference
Allison B. Taylor, a 1999 graduate, presented a paper entitled, "Talking to the ‘Real’ Somalis: Identity and Authenticity in an African Diaspora," at the Boston University Graduate Research Conference in African Studies on March 15. Her paper was based on preliminary fieldwork she conducted last summer in Mombasa, Kenya, for her dissertation research on trauma and coping among Somali refugees; she plans to continue her fieldwork in Minneapolis in June.
Allison is currently in her third year of a PhD program in cultural anthropology at Brandeis University.
