2007 Graduates Employment Survey Yields Important Results

The annual employment survey of new graduates, administered by the School’s Alumni Relations Office, has produced some important and useful information.

The survey, conducted in February 2008, was returned by 40 percent of those who graduated in May and September 2007. Some of the highlights include:

• About 87 percent of the respondents are currently employed in social work or human services. More than 86 percent are in clinical practice, with about 13 percent in macro practice positions.

• Most graduates have remained in Massachusetts. Over half of the respondents indicate that they are working in an urban setting and 57 percent in private, not-for-profit agencies.

• The highest percentage of graduates is working in child welfare or children’s services settings, followed by mental health, family services, health/medical, and school social work.

• The median reported starting salary range is $40,000 to $45,000.

• 37 percent of those who responded found employment prior to their graduation; nearly 55 percent of those who searched for employment after graduation were successful in three months or less.
