The Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index rates the productivity of faculty members in 7,294 individual doctoral programs in 104 disciplines at 354 institutions. The most recent 2007 Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index has compiled overall institutional rankings on 375 universities that offer Ph.D. programs. Faculty members are judged on five factors, depending on the most important variables in the given discipline: books published, journal publications, citations of journal articles, federal-grant dollars awarded and honors and awards.

Dean Gail Steketee comments, “What a pleasure to see our excellent faculty recognized for their hard work! Each year as I review their annual reports and CVs, I have been impressed with just how outstanding they are. Although this report rates scholarly productivity, I also want to congratulate them for their excellent teaching abilities which are reflected in remarkably high student ratings each year. I find it a true pleasure to work with this outstanding group of BU social work faculty.”

Guided by an accomplished and dedicated faculty, BUSSW students receive top-notch training in the field. The goal of the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Social Work and Sociology is to produce graduates capable of pursuing rewarding academic careers. Students leave the School with innovated knowledge, social awareness and a renewed dedicated toward influencing positive changes in their communities. Read about our PhD graduates

States Professor Rob Hudson, “We are delighted that the work of SSW faculty has been recognized by the national assessment study of faculty productivity conducted by Academic Analytics and published in The Chronicle of Higher Education. Not only is the School’s #6 overall ranking productive impressive, but especially noteworthy is our ranking #1 in the ‘citations by faculty’ category, a critical impact-factor metric. Indeed our score of 27.57 is more than double most of the entrants in the top 10 and well ahead of our other peers.”
