7/29: Prof. Jacobson Lopez Presents on Sexual Assault Against Marginalized Populations in Higher Education

As part of the University of Pittsburgh’s Diversity Forum 2021, Boston University School of Social Work Prof. Daniel Jacobson Lopez will present on how students, faculty, administration, and staff can support LGBT sexual assault survivors of color in higher education. Details on complications during the reporting process due to COVID-19 will also be discussed, as well as a history of sexual assault in higher education. Dr. Jacobson Lopez is presenting with Carrie Benson, University of Pittsburgh’s Assistant Director of Title IX. This event is open to all those wishing to combat sexual assault.
“This topic is particularly relevant as LGBT students of color are widely ignored in sexual assault discourse, although they are at higher risk of being subjected to sexual violence,” says Prof. Jacobson Lopez. “LGBT students of color contend with homophobia, transphobia, and racism while combating rape culture simultaneously. University of Pittsburgh’s Title IX Office is at the forefront of this work, and we want to ensure that students know where to report and the resources that are available to them.”
