2/15: Prof. Byrne Shares Expertise on Using Data to Understand Homelessness & Shelter Design

On February 15th, Prof. Thomas Byrne will be joined by Harvard research analyst Riordan Frost for a presentation at the Boston Society for Architecture (BSA), on how designers of shelter and homeless housing can use data to better understand the current homelessness crisis. What used to be understood as an indicator of poverty or economic downturns has now broadened to encompass substance use, mental illness, and other social issues. “As designers, having an understanding of our homeless population can help us find innovative solutions to providing adequate types of shelters and housing for ever changing demographics,” says the BSA. The presentation will encompass qualitative and quantitative data at both the state and national level in an attempt to address this growing issue.
