STUDENT PERFORMANCE NIGHT!

Join the African American Studies Program, UMOJA, and Company One for an afternoon of performances by OrigiNation and BU’s slam poetry group Speak for Yourself in celebration of Company One’s upcoming performance “The Emancipation of Mandy and Miz Ellie.” The event will take place Tuesday March 30, 2010 from 4-6pm in the Howard Thurman Center, located at 775 Commonwealth Avenue, Lower Level.

The performers:

OrigiNation is a nonprofit organization that aims to empower youth between the ages of 5 and 18 to reach their fullest potential and have productive futures by developing self-esteem and promoting civic responsibility through performance, education, and cultural arts.

Speak for Yourself is Boston University’s one and only performance poetry student group. The goal of the group is not only to promote spoken word poetry but also to provide a forum in which poets and poetry fans alike can discuss each others’ poetry, learn about poetry-related events in Boston, meet friends, and have fun.

The performances will be followed by a discussion led by leaders of OrigiNation and Lois Roach, the writer and producer of “The Emancipation of Mandy and Miz Ellie.”
