Colin McConarty is a PhD candidate in the Boston College History Department, where he studies race and politics in the United States. His research focuses on how southern congressmen used the federal government to advance white supremacists’ objectives during Reconstruction. Before graduate school, he lived and taught in Selma, Alabama.
