Jennifer Beard, PhD, MA, MPH, is a clinical associate professor in the Department of Global Health Boston University School of Public Health (SPH) where she oversees the writing public health program and teaches courses in professional and scientific writing, qualitative research, social determinants of health, and mental health. She is also a founding member of the BU Program for Global Health Storytelling—a collaboration between SPH, the BU College of Communication, and the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting—which looks at the similarities and tensions between global health research and journalism and seeks ways we can better work together. Jennifer completed her PhD in British literature in 1998. While her research is now focused on global health, she remains a devoted reader of Victorian novels and is convinced that her current research interests have their roots in her passion for Charles Dickens and the Brontë sisters.
