Response to Recent Armed Robberies
Dear Boston University students, parents, faculty, and staff:
I am writing to update you on the steps we are taking to address the very understandable concerns about the series of armed robberies involving BU students that have occurred near, and now on, our campus.
We are working closely with Brookline police who have jurisdiction for the areas adjoining our campus where the first three robberies occurred, as well as with Boston police. Boston University, Boston, and Brookline police have all added patrols on and around our campus and are aggressively pursuing all leads.
Three additional steps are being taken today:
- Boston University is offering a reward of $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of one or more of the perpetrators involved in these robberies.
- An enhanced video of three suspects will be released to news outlets later this afternoon.
- Boston University Police Chief Thomas Robbins and Brookline Police Chief Daniel O’Leary will meet with students at a town hall meeting this evening hosted by Dean of Students Kenn Elmore. The meeting will take place at 8 p.m. in the Metcalf Ballroom at the George Sherman Union.
I encourage you to follow our online newspage, BU Today, for updates on developments. We will continue to communicate with you when we have concrete news or specific updates.
This series of serious incidents has been very disturbing to all members of our community. Our police officers, public law enforcement colleagues, and Boston University administrators are all acutely aware of the real and understandable anxiety that is being felt. We will continue to work closely with all relevant law enforcement authorities and employ all available means to maintain a high level of vigilance and develop approaches that will lead to the apprehension of the perpetrators.
Sincerely,
Robert A. Brown
President
