Painter and sculptor Kerry James Marshall speaks at the College of Fine Arts, as the final visiting artist of the school of visual arts 2009-2010 Contemporary Perspectives Lecture Series. Marshall, a renowned artist of African-American pop culture, [...]draws on his works, which represent African-Americans in our culture, and investigates the invisibility of blacks in America.
Marshall, whose work is in museums and collections worldwide, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and FransHals Museum in Haarlem, Netherlands, received a MacArthur genius grant in 1997 Many of his large-scale works reflect the social and political context of the civil rights movement.
