Louis Chude-Sokei, director of the African American Studies Program, professor of English, and holder of the George and Joyce Wein Chair in African American Studies, recently published a memoir, Floating in a Most Peculiar Way. This work chronicles his early childhood across continents, the role his parents played in his life, the way pop culture, especially David Bowie, influenced him, and other tales from his younger life. Louis spoke to BU Today about the book, his family, America, and identity, and you can read an excerpt, titled “On the Many Meanings of Black Diaspora,” on Literary Hub.
