CAS Dean Virginia Sapiro announced at the start of the fall semester that 2014–15 would be her eighth and final academic year as Dean of Arts & Sciences. During her tenure, Dean Sapiro has worked with the College’s senior leadership, department chairs, faculty, and staff to build upon the strong foundation she inherited. Over the past seven years, we have taken great strides in improving and growing our organization, the strength and quality of our faculty and student body, our capacity to innovate, and our international reputation.
More than 150 new tenured and tenure-track faculty members have been hired (53 into new positions), the number of freshman applications has increased 38 percent, and philanthropic gifts have more than doubled. As of May 2015, Dean Sapiro will return to “her first professional love—being a scholar and educator” at BU. Read more
