Ecological and Evolutionary Ethology of Fishes Biennial Conference

The 2008 Ecological and Evolutionary Ethology of Fishes Biennial Conference was held at Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

The event was organized and hosted by CGS professors Maria Abate and Michael Clancy and was partially sponsored by CGS.

This year’s meeting had themes that examined marine and freshwater fishes at a variety of structural levels, from gene to ecosystem. There was the usual congenial atmosphere for students, newcomers and loyal EEEFers studying fish behavior, ecology and evolution from around the country and abroad.  Thanks to Boston University and all of its sponsors (including CGS) for their generous support.

This year’s sessions took place from June 29 – July 3. Attendees had the additional option of staying in conference-arranged accommodations through July 6 to enjoy Boston’s world-renowned July 4th Independence Day Celebration and the weekend exploring the many festivities, historic landmarks and cultural sights of Boston and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Thank you to David Noakes for contributing About EEEF, a brief history and description of this scientific community. The EEEF 2008 Logo, The Sacred Cod, is relevant for its historic and current symbolism. The Sacred Cod is a wood carving of the Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua Linnaeus, 1758) which hangs in the public gallery of the Massachusetts House of Representatives. This Massachusetts Statehouse landmark from the 1770s is a symbol of the significance that healthy fish populations play in socioeconomic development. It is also a sober reminder of the need for scientific endeavors that contribute to our understanding of fish adaptations for the conservation of fishes worldwide. A special thanks to the State House Photographer, Mark Kasianowicz, and State Representative Cory Atkins and her staff for providing this photo specifically for the EEEF 2008 Logo
