As one of the most vibrant and distinguished ensembles within the greater Boston University community, the Marsh Chapel Choir carries a rich tradition of excellence in worship and concert music. With the global reach of Marsh Chapel’s livestream and its affiliation with Boston’s NPR station, WBUR, the Choir’s artistry extends far beyond the Charles River Campus, inspiring listeners around the world.
The choir is composed of a talented, diverse group of auditioned members, including Boston University undergraduate and graduate students, alumni, staff, and members of the Chapel’s community chapter. United by a shared dedication to musical excellence, the choir serves as the musical heart of Marsh Chapel.
Each year, the choir presents an ambitious program of sacred repertoire, with a focus on the European classical tradition. The music of Johann Sebastian Bach remains central to its work, including performances of the Bach Passions during Holy Week and a long-standing exploration of Bach’s sacred cantatas in the Bach Experience series, which has been a core part of Marsh Chapel’s musical life since 2006.
Whether in worship or concert, the Marsh Chapel Choir continues to offer music that inspires, uplifts, and enriches the spiritual and artistic life of Boston University and beyond.
Repertoire
The Marsh Chapel Choir provides exceptional musical leadership for the 11AM Sunday Interdenominational worship service and other special services throughout the year, such as Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Christmas Eve.
Music performed during the Sunday morning services is pulled from a diverse repertoire and breadth of history – from medieval polyphony to baroque cantatas to new music.
