Goldman School of Dental Medicine – Construction Update – 4/13/18
During the week of April 16:
- We will continue drilling the first foundation piling in the area between the former GSDM cafeteria and the loading dock of the building in preparation for the new building foundations. Load-testing of this piling will also take place this week.
- “Light” demolition of the cafeteria will continue, consisting of removing finishes, such as ceiling tiles, casework, and the like. Preparations for hazardous material abatement in the cafeteria will begin with the containment protocols approved by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP); these protocols include establishing temporary walls and installing negative air machines in order to contain any dust particles generated during the work activities.
- Installation of the handicap lift was completed this week. Testing and state inspection are pending. Preparations for switching over the loading dock activities from the current loading dock at Albany Street to the temporary loading dock at East Newton Street will take place in the coming week, with the transition expected for Wednesday, April 18. Police details will be on site to assist pedestrians walking in this area while any loading dock activities are occurring. The handicap ramp will remain open until the handicap lift has been certified for use by state officials.
As a reminder to all, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered at both the interior and exterior of the building. Your safety is imperative!
