Goldman School of Dental Medicine – Construction Update -4/20/18
During the week of April 23:
- Demolition will continue in the GSDM cafeteria’s basement, including hazardous material abatement under protocols approved by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). These protocols include establishing temporary walls and installing negative air machines, in order to contain any dust particles generated during the work activities. Following the completion of abatement, the demolition of the remaining structure will begin.
- The pile-drilling operation will continue. Installation of a test piling was completed this week and will be load-tested on Tuesday. The drilling rig will then be moved to the East Newton Street side of the building.
- Installation of an egress door next to the temporary supply store on the existing building’s first floor is tentatively scheduled to begin, pending completion of the state inspection of the handicap lift. Upon notification of a successful inspection, the public will then be able to use the new handicap lift, allowing demolition to begin on the existing handicap ramp. (Creation of the new egress door will occur at night to limit the impact on School operations.)
- Baseline readings of the building’s current heating, air conditioning, and ventilation systems will be taken on all floors. These readings will be used to restore the systems to their current operating levels. Again, this work will be performed at night.
- “Make Safe” work on the building’s existing mechanical, electrical, and fire protection systems will continue in the Phase 1 area of the building’s first floor and in the basement in preparation for demolition in the area.
As a reminder to all, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered at both the interior and exterior of the building. Your safety is imperative!
