Notice of Special Interest (NOSI)
Administrative Supplements and Urgent Competitive Revisions for NIH Grants to Add or Expand Research Focused on Maternal Health, Structural Racism, and Discrimination, and COVID-19
The NIH IMPROVE initiative was launched to rapidly improve our understanding of the leading causes of pregnancy-related and pregnancy-associated morbidity and mortality (MMM) during pregnancy, at delivery, and up to one year post-partum.
In response to the current COVID-19 pandemic, which has exposed inequities resulting in stark differences in maternal health outcomes seen by race and ethnicity, age, and geography, NIH has released a NOSI (NOT-OD-21-071) that focuses on the intersection between COVID-19, structural racism, and discrimination, and MMM. Interested parties can submit applications for administrative supplements or competitive revisions to active awards via PA-20-272 and PA-18-935, respectively. Please be sure to enter NOT-OD-21-071 in the Agency Routing Identifier field (Box 4B) on the SF424 R&R form if you would like your application to be considered for funding.
The focus of this Notice of Special Interest seeks to:
- Understand the effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection and the COVID-19 pandemic on maternal mental health, well-being, functioning, and quality of life;
- Identify psychosocial and behavioral health risk factors related to the COVID-19 pandemic that affect maternal mental health and functioning outcomes;
- Address the impact of structural racism and discrimination on maternal health outcomes in the context of COVID-19.
NIH invites investigators to submit applications to address this public health concern and welcomes inquiries concerning this notice. Review the Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) for more information on areas of research interest, eligibility, and application submissions.
