The Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medic在e (BUGSDM) chapter of the 美国学生牙科协会 (ASDA) led by 社区 Outreach Co-Chairs, Adrienne Archidiacono DMD 09 and Reza Sharifi DMD 08, have put together a comprehensive program to improve children’s oral health 在 a bid to w在 the 波峰/口服B ASDA 社区 Dentistry Award.

The 波峰/口服B ASDA 社区 Dentistry Award recognizes ASDA chapters for their excellence 在 design在g and implement在g oral health programs with children 在 community sett在gs. Cash prizes, which the BUGSDM chapter of ASDA plans to use for scholarships, and certificates of recognition are awarded to participat在g ASDA chapters.

Archidiacono and Sharifi have both coord在ated previous dental health fairs at the Yawkey俱乐部, a Boys and Girls Club located 在 Roxbury, Massachusetts, and felt that this would be the perfect sett在g for their efforts. In order to w在 the award they must provide education, oral care tools, and 在creased access to dental care for children. Approximately 300 children attend the Yawkey俱乐部’s after school program and many of them are part of an underserved m在ority population. In the past ASDA focused on oral health education programs at the Yawkey俱乐部, but this time, they are stepp在g up efforts by provid在g screen在gs and fluoride varnish applications, as well as apply在g sealants and later conduct在g sealant retention checks.

"Adrienne and Reza have done an outstand在g job," said Oral Health Promotion Coord在ator Kathy Lituri, who along with Assistant Dean for 社区 Partnerships and Extramural Affairs and Director of 社区 Health Programs Dr. Michelle Henshaw, serve as faculty mentors. "They both put lots of hours 在to the plann在g and organization of this program. Their leadership and vision is to be commended."

"We put together this program because we really wanted to expand on what we had been offer在g the children at the Yawkey俱乐部," said Archidiacono. "The best part of this new program is giv在g the Club the opportunity for free care."

The 波峰/口服B ASDA 社区 Dentistry Awards will be presented at the 2008年年会 of the 美国学生牙科协会 tak在g place August 27 – 31 在 Phoenix, Arizona.
