Updates in General Dentistry Conference Focuses on Latest Research and Techniques

Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) Dean Jeffrey Hutter and Professor and Chair of General Dentistry Dr. Judith Jones welcomed General Dentistry faculty, students, and Applied Professional Experience (APEX) and Extramural Program mentors as they gathered in the 670 Albany Street auditorium on Friday, June 19 for the 7th Annual Updates in General Dentistry Conference.
Following their remarks the first of two keynote speakers, Gary Reiser PERIO 70, presented a lecture titled, "Modalities of Surgical Therapy as the Basis for Supporting Restorative Efforts and a Healthy & Esthetic Dentition." Dr. Reiser is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and practices periodontics and implant therapy in Boston and Swampscott, Massachusetts.
After a morning break the second keynote speaker, Roger Wise PERIO 73, ORTHO 77, presented a lecture titled, "The Multi Disciplinary Approach to the Management of Dental Alveolar Trauma." Dr. Wise has presented more than 200 lectures both nationally and internationally on adult orthodontics and the interrelationship of periodontics, orthodontics, and restorative dentistry. He practices periodontics, adult orthodontics, and implantology in Swampscott, Massachusetts.
For the last lecture of the morning, GSDM Professor and Assistant Dean for Community Partnerships and Extramural Affairs Dr. Michelle Henshaw and Professor and Director of the Division of Dental Public Health Dr. Ana Karina Mascarenhas presented a lecture titled, "Student Productivity and Externship: Does it Make a Difference?"
After lunch participants chose from a selection of workshops including, "Implants by Predoctoral Students: Update on our Program," by Clinical Assistant Professor Dr. Christine Paige; "Hands-on CEREC: What’s Different About the Preps and Impressions?" by Clinical Instructor Dr. Fred Harrington and APEX Preceptor Dr. Richard Short; and "Caries Risk Assessment: BU’s Four-Year Approach," by Clinical Assistant Professor Dr. Negar Nasseripour, Clinical Instructor Dr. Ana Zea, and Jehan Al-Humaid DPH 11.
