AEGD/CE Alumni Dinner Introduces Residents to Alums

On Tuesday, June 16, the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) Department of Restorative Sciences and Biomaterials hosted a continuing education lecture and Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) alumni reunion at the BU School of Management Trustee’s Ballroom.

Dean Jeffrey Hutter began the night by acknowledging the outstanding work of AEGD Director John Cassis PROS 86, DMD 88 and the excellent faculty and staff of the AEGD program and thanked the alumni for attending adding, "It is indeed a unique pleasure and privilege to be with our alumni right here in Boston." He continued, "It has been ten months since I was appointed Dean and I am still absolutely thrilled. I just presided over commencement last month–my first as Dean–and it was truly joyful to welcome the newest alumni to our extended BU family. Included in these newest alumni were the outstanding graduates of the AEGD Class of 2009."

For the continuing education portion of the evening Dr. Dan Nathanson, Professor and Chair of the Department of Restorative Sciences and Biomaterials introduced Dr. Hans-Peter Weber, Raymond J. and Elva Pomfret Nagle Professor of Restorative Dentistry and Biomaterials Sciences and Chair of the Department of Restorative Dentistry and Biomaterial Sciences at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, who presented a lecture titled, "What’s New With Dental Implants." The lecture, which discussed risk assessment, treatment planning, and optimal implant placement as the most important contributors to successful short- and long-term outcomes with implant restorations, was well received by the audience comprised of AEGD residents, alumni, faculty, and vendors.

The event also featured the opportunity for networking and a gourmet dinner. Current AEGD residents were able to meet alumni of the program and learn about their experiences at the School and after graduating from the program.

"This event was an excellent opportunity for AEGD alumni to reconnect with the School and also for the current residents to establish a network of people with a similar educational background that are now successful dental practitioners," said Dr. Cassis. "The event was well attended and the alumni always seem to enjoy learning about the evolution of the AEGD program and reminiscing with one another about their time at GSDM."
