Annual Session 2010 energizes BU ASDA

Several members of the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) chapter of the American Student Dental Association (ASDA) traveled to Baltimore, Maryland March 17 to 21, for the organization’s Annual Session.
More than 300 dental students, representing all of the U.S. dental schools attended the session. The program included many interesting speakers, breakout sessions, and networking opportunities. BU ASDA members attended meetings on licensure, education, and governmental issues. They discussed new resolutions in the House of Delegates and voted on issues such as the format of the NBDE exams and non-patient based licensure exams. Elections were held for a new district trustee and a new executive committee. For those interested in podcasts or videos from the Session, ASDA’s blog is full of engaging multimedia posts.
A highlight of the Session for the students was attending a keynote lecture by New York City Fire Chief and author Richard Picciotto on March 18. Picciotto, author of Last Man Down, discussed his leadership role in the rescue efforts during the September 11, 2001 tragedy at the World Trade Center towers in New York, New York. Although Picciotto is not in the dental industry, his story was inspirational and very well-received.
