GSDM Holds First Ever AAPHD Meeting
Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine’s (GSDM) newest student organization chapter, the American Association of Public Health Dentistry (AAPHD), held its first meeting on Friday, September 13, 2013 at the 670 Albany Street Auditorium. Around 30 students attended the meeting.

The GSDM student chapter of the AAPHD aims to raise awareness and educate its members on issues within the scope of public health dentistry. Accomplishing these missions will enable them to provide effective services for communities most in need.
Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter welcomed the group and Andrea Lam DMD 16 gave a brief introduction to the goals of the organization, discussed the two committees available for members to join, provided an opportunity for interested students to officially sign up for membership, and introduced nominees for AAPHD office positions.
Nominees introduced themselves and briefly discussed their qualifications for the desired position. After the speeches, meeting attendees voted for the offices of President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary.
The election winners are:
President: Andrea Lam DMD 16
Vice President: Aaron Mertz DMD 16
Secretary: Brahmleen Kaur AS 15
Treasurer: Marium Qureshi AS 15
“This is an exciting time, and an exciting opportunity. Moving forward I hope to build a strong foundation for the organization to ensure its sustainability for future members,” said newly elected AAPHD President Andrea Lam. “We are very fortunate to have the guidance of our dedicated faculty advisors, and I would especially like to thank Dr. Sohn, Dr. Culler, and Ms. Lituri for their support in getting this organization off the ground.”
