Program White Coat Gives Local Kids a Chance to Shine as Dentists

Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine (BUGSDM) welcomed 10 Boston-area children, ages 9 to 11, July 21 to 25 for the fourth annual Program White Coat, a summer program that introduces children to dentistry and other related health professions.

The program is one of BUGSDM’s pipeline programs, which aim to increase the chances of underrepresented minorities and economically disadvantaged students being accepted into and succeeding in dental school.

BUGSDM faculty, staff, and students led children through an interactive schedule focusing on oral health and fun. Participants role played in the School’s Simulation Learning Center, conducted experiments in Boston University’s CityLab, and learned first-hand what goes on in a dental operatory.

Program White Coat superhero Captain Cavity Fighter, the disguised fourth-year dental student Joe Ayitey-Adjin, was on hand to guide children through the week.
