Science Day Winners Celebrated at Luncheon

On April 6, Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) held the first annual Science Day Awards Luncheon in the Hiebert Lounge to celebrate the winners of Science Day, held on March 25.
Students who took first place in the pre and postdoctoral poster and oral presentation categories, as well as the winning postdoctoral fellow presentation, and the winner of the ADA/Dentsply Award were all presented with awards. Their posters decorated the perimeter of the Lounge and attendees were once again able to view the winning research.
Professor and Director of the Predoctoral Research Program Dr. Maria Kukuruzinska and Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter welcomed guests, including Provost Karen Antman and Associate Provost for Research Ronald Corley, to the event. Dr. Kukuruzinska was pleased that the luncheon was being held for the first time and added, “The Science Day Awards Luncheon is a significant event because it emphasizes the importance of research training in dental education.”
Once the Science Day Awards were presented Dr. Kukuruzinska announced other prestigious research awards that had been won by students in the last year and those students—also in attendance—stood for a moment of recognition and applause.
"It was wonderful to see the research of our students and their faculty and staff mentors recognized in this fashion," said Dean Hutter. "These students have found aspects of oral health that they felt deserved further exploration, and I hope that their passion for these research topics inspire other dental students to get involved in research."
