How to Stay Healthy on a Budget

In the spirit of one BU, medical and dental student activists teamed up, along with Breath of Life Dorchester (BOLD) Teens, April 10 to inspire Boston residents to take charge of their physical and financial well being.
BU chapters of the Student National Medical (SNMA) and Dental (SNDA) Associations participated in a health and job fair at Carver Den in Dorchester. Students talked about how to stay healthy on a budget and give these tips:
- Get your annual Flu shot
- Quit smoking
- Eat healthy
- Go for a walk in the park
- Find a healthy way to relieve stress
- Flossing maintains oral health and can boost your overall health
“Prevention is key,” says BUSM student Laura Moreno, “If you get regular check-ups now you will save money on medical treatments later.”
SNDA talked about dental career options and offered free oral screenings. Co-Communication and Publications Chair Michelle Ardzinski DMD 11 says, “The SNDA was pleased to take part in this event, which aligned with our group’s mission to help the underserved by promoting oral health education.”
Volunteers included GSDM students Michelle Ardzinski DMD 11, Chrissy DeMarti DMD 11, Margarita Galvez DMD 11, SNDA President Mahogany Miles DMD 11, Kandis Smith DMD 12, Josephine Verde DMD 13, Michelle Vo DMD 13, and Myrna Zohni DMD 12; along with BUSM students, Boston University undergraduate students, and students from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.
Photos of the event are available on the GSDM flickr account and Facebook page.
