Dr. Carlos Hirschberg Contributes Expertise in Selection of Grant Recipients

Chair of the Department of Molecular & Cell Biology Dr. Carlos B. Hirschberg recently helped select grant recipients for the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center Cooperative Research Matching Grant Program, which matches industry money to academic research of diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and fibrosis—conditions affecting a large part of the population.

Dr. Hirschberg is one of approximately ten people who are responsible for selecting the grant recipients. Recipients will be officially announced this summer.

“This is an initiative by Governor Deval Patrick to fund exploratory research projects between academia and industry with the goal of creating new jobs in Massachusetts in the biomedical and biotechnology fields,” said Dr. Hirschberg.

This was the second round of grants given through the Program. Dr. Hirschberg helped select the first six grant recipients a little more than two years ago.
