Another Winning Yankee for BUSDM

The Yankee Dental Congress was a time of success and celebration for BUSDM.

The school’s contributions extended beyond our Clinician of the Year, Dr. Dan Nathanson, chair of the Department of Restorative Sciences and Biomaterials, and our 15 faculty presenters. This year’s YDC also saw the re-launch of the Dental Career Network website, a strong BUSDM showing in the student table clinic presentations, and a variety of events bringing together BUSDM students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

BUSDM students clinched first and second place in this year’s student table clinic research presentations. Faculty judges from the three dental schools represented in the competition–BUSDM, Tufts, and Harvard–evaluated the presentations and awarded cash prizes.

First place went to Michael Hoge DMD 07 for his presentation entitled "Doxycycline Affects Diet- and Bacteria-associated Atherosclerosis in an ApoE Heterozygote Murine Model: Implications from Cytokine Profiling." Hoge worked on his research with Dr. Saloman Amar, professor and associate dean for research. Jean-David Sebaoun ORTHO 07, who worked with Dr. Donald Ferguson, chair of the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, won second place with "Rapid Tooth Movement After Selective Alveolar Decortication in the Rat."

"Regardless of any prizes, all the students deserve praise for their hard work," says Dr. Cataldo Leone, associate professor of periodontology and oral biology and chair of this year’s Yankee Dental Congress student table clinics.
