GSDM Gets Involved With Notre Dame Education Center
Under the leadership of Fransheska Ovalles DMD 13, and in cooperation with CHP Oral Health Promotion Director Kathy Lituri, the BU chapter of ASDA participated in the 4th Notre Dame Education Center event on February 28.
Said Lituri, “Our participation in this event is something that Jenny Lorenzo DMD 13 helped to establish in the Fall of 2010, and since then we have participated three additional times. It is a great event for students to get involved with and this year we screened 58 adults.”
NDEC strives to provide their students with skills that empower them as citizens, as family members, and as participants in the workforce, as well as in the community.
Nine GSDM students and one BU pre-dental student volunteered. As volunteers they offered the students information on oral health, screenings, and referrals. NDEC students are eligible to enroll in the BU Student Dental Health Plan, so volunteers made an effort to explain the plan benefits, especially to those students who do not qualify for the School’s BUMP UP program.
