Dental Care Remains Strong in Chelsea at Back to School Celebration

Chelsea-200Approximately 1,000 students and their parents attended the 9th annual Chelsea Back to School Celebration at Williams Middle School on Thursday, August 23, 2012. Each August, school and community groups welcome Chelsea students back to school with games, prizes, giveaways, and educational information.

Six members of the BU faculty and staff—Director, School-based Programs Corinna Culler; Joyce Ganas; Chelsea Johnston; Dr. Ana Keohane; Brian Mahoney; and Ben Wheeler—were on hand to talk about the Chelsea School Dental Center (located in Williams Middle School) and oral health.

GSDM volunteers provided toothbrushes, toothpaste, stickers, and informational flyers about the Chelsea School Dental Center and general oral health.

“Since opening in April of 2003, the Chelsea School Dental Center, managed by GSDM, has provided preventive and restorative services for thousands of children who may have no other source of dental care,” says Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter. “I am so pleased that our staff and faculty continue to have a presence in the Chelsea community, not only through the Chelsea School Dental Center, but also by attending the Chelsea Back to School Celebration along with other Chelsea community partners each year.”
