GSDM Students Participate in Notre Dame Educational Center Dental Health Fair
On Thursday, January 24, 2013, nine students from the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) and Oral Health Promotion Director Kathy Lituri volunteered at the Notre Dame Educational Center (NDEC) Dental Health Fair.
Jenny Lorenzo and Fransheska Ovalles, both DMD 13, organized this American Student Dental Association (ASDA) event in collaboration with the School’s Division of Community Health Programs (CHP).
The GSDM students offered health promotion, education, age appropriate activities, screenings, and referrals. NDEC students are now eligible to enroll in the Boston University Student Dental Health Plan.
Jenny Lorenzo, ASDA liaison and community outreach co-chair, was pleased with the GSDM volunteers’ efforts at NDEC. “NDEC is a great event that we love doing every year. The Sisters there are so welcoming and are extremely happy that we go,” said Lorenzo. “We have been going to NDEC for three years now and we will keep on going back for as long as they need us to!”
“Thanks to the students for participating in this important event,” said Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter. “Their volunteer efforts at the NDEC Dental Health Fair exemplify the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine’s commitment to promoting dental health in our community.”
The student volunteers were: Ella Botchevar DMD 14, Alejandro Lander DMD 16, Dave Lane DMD 16, Jenny Lorenzo DMD 13, Fransheska Ovalles DMD 13, Amrita Patel DMD 15, Neelam Shah DMD 14, Wyatt Traina DMD 14, and John Westress DMD 15.
