Dr. Ramzi Sarkis Delivers Presentation at North Shore District Dental Society Meeting

On Thursday, April 11, 2013, Dr. Ramzi Sarkis, Assistant Professor in the Department of Endodontics at the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM), delivered a presentation at the North Shore District Dental Society’s (NSDDS) meeting at the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem.

Dr. Sarkis’s presentation, “The Endo-Perio Connection,” explored the intimate relationship between the root canal system and the periodontium that sets the stage for a variety of clinical pathological presentations. Endo-perio lesions commonly go unrecognized and are often misunderstood. His presentation provided practitioners with the information necessary to diagnose endo-perio disease and assist dentists with determining the prognosis of such cases.

Dr. Sarkis examined the endo-perio connection using the following objectives: provide an understanding of the endo-perio pathophysiology, identify signs and symptoms of the endo-perio lesions, classify endo-perio lesions, recognize and classify cracked teeth and vertical root fractures, review various clinical and pathological manifestations of this connection, and discuss treatment options.
