GSDM Faculty and Staff Compete With Students In Annual Basketball Game
Faculty, staff, and students, once again traded scrubs for gym shorts on Friday April 1, 2016, during the annual student vs. faculty/staff basketball game at the South End Fitness Center, which is sponsored by the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) chapter of the Student National Dental Association (SNDA).
The event is one of SNDA’s most popular fundraisers, pitting a team of GSDM students against a team of GSDM faculty and staff. After the two 20-minute halves came to a close, the final score was 59 to 54, with the students barely beating the faculty and staff.
A total of 14 students participated on the student team and 10 faculty and staff participated on the faculty and staff team.
Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter, Dr. Joseph Calabrese, and Dr. Tina Valades donned their black and white striped shirts during the game to serve as the referees.
“I love how students, faculty, and staff can all come together for a fun-filled event, while also interacting outside of the dental school,” said Jobren Dingle DMD 17, President of the GSDM SNDA. “A special thanks to all the players, in addition to Dean Hutter, Dr. Calabrese, and Dr. Valades for their continued support and refereeing the game.”
Many GSDM community members were in attendance at the basketball game as well, cheering on their respective teams. Tickets for participating in the game and for spectators were $10. The money raised from tickets sales goes toward event costs and SNDA outreach events.
A postgame party took place at Clery’s in Back Bay.
“Once again, I thoroughly enjoyed serving as a referee at the annual SNDA student vs. faculty/staff basketball game,” said Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter. “This annual event provides a wonderful opportunity for faculty, staff, and students to get to know each other in a relaxed setting, while also allowing all of us to discover who GSDM’s hidden basketball stars are. I would like to thank all the members of the SNDA who had a hand in planning this fantastic event.”
