Coffee and Conversation: Props to the Power of the “Green Police”
On Sunday, this ad caught my attention:
Some people dig it, others are ready for a throw down. Folk have raised concerns about Nazi imagery; that this is an extreme and unfair rep of environmental movements; a blatant political move; and, an ineffective way to make a difference when it comes to the environment (buy a new “green” ride). Other folk love the satire and say sometimes a commercial is just a commercial.
Is this just a commercial or is there more going on here? Is this a dystopia or should this be a goal if we want to get serious about addressing global climate change? Do we really have to consider big changes to the way we live our lives if we are to make a contribution to dealing with the issue — plastic as contraband; regulated use of certain products; curbs on what we throw away? Isn’t it time to think about what we’re willing to do if we want to really address a problem? We change our collective behavior to deal all the time — remember the economy and the ongoing fight against violent religious folk.
This Friday, let’s talk about what you’re willing to do to save the planet. Do you think you need to do anything? Meet me at the Howard Thurman Center, 3 to 5 p.m., with your thoughts. I’ll bring the coffee and the cookies. (And, if you forget to bring a portable cup, I’ll give you a compost-able one — I promise no police will be on hand.)
Peace.
PS: I stop cold to watch this commercial that I also first saw on Sunday night:
BTW – it’s been criticized for promoting air travel (not great for the climate change issue).
