Chuanhua Duan Elected Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers

Associate Professor Chuanhua Duan (ME, MSE) has been elected a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

Duan directs the Nanoscale Energy-Fluids Transport (NEFT) Laboratory at Boston University. His group focuses on understanding nanoscale energy and fluids transport phenomena and leveraging that knowledge to develop novel devices and approaches for applications in life sciences, thermal management, energy systems, and manufacturing. Professor Duan has made meaningful impacts in several fields, including nanofluidics and micro/nanoscale phase-change heat and mass transfer.

Beyond that, Duan has also made significant contributions to building a research community for nanofluidics . As a relatively new research area, nanofluidics lacked a well-established community or dedicated conferences. Recognizing this gap, Duan co-organized the first international nanofluidics symposium, titled Carbon Nanofluidics, at the 2016 MRS Spring Meeting, helping to bring together researchers working in this area and laying the foundation for new and continued collaboration in this field. Duan has also been a member of the ASME Nanoscale Thermal Transport Committee and has helped shape research directions and foster collaborations in this field.

About ASME

Founded in 1880 by a small group of industrialists and comprising more than 140,000 members in 151 countries, ASME is a nonprofit membership organization that enables collaboration, knowledge sharing, career enrichment, and skills development across all engineering disciplines for the purpose of helping the global engineering community to advance solutions that improve the quality of life.
