EDUCATION DEPT. TAKES ACTION ON ACCREDITATION
The U.S. Department of Education announced a “transparency agenda” for accreditation last week, making more accreditation documents publicly available on the Department’s web site and urging Congress to give the agency more authority to oversee accreditors. The Department will provide guidance to accreditors within the next 75 days on ways they can implement “risk-based approaches” to their work that would focus more attention on poor-performing institutions and ease the compliance burden on colleges with a demonstrated record of success.
