Agency Description/Mission Statement:
The Global Health unit’s goal is to “create abundant health in economically vulnerable communities by protecting children and disadvantaged adults from preventable causes of death and disease.” To achieve this we partner with thousands of communities and health workers through our community-based health programs, while also supporting more than 300 United Methodist hospitals and clinics throughout the world.

Practicum description/Scope of Work:
We seek graduate students able to contribute to our work in the following areas

1. Scaling up existing programs on community education, care seeking and utilization of health services.
2. Increasing coverage of health interventions to the most at risk populations with emphasis on malaria control and maternal and child health services
3. Improving the quality and scale of health care services offered through UMC hospitals and clinics in Africa.

Minimum skills required/desired:
Background in: Public Health, Medicine, Nutritional Sciences preferred, though adequate experience in Public Administration, Development, International Policy or Relations, etc. would be considered.

• Strong organizational, writing and communication skills.
• Ability to conduct literature review for best practices in global health.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Organized, with an ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments.
• Creative and Flexible.

Ability to work from the Global Health office in New York City.

Desired Skills:
• French or Portuguese language skills will be an advantage
• Ability and interest to work with a multi-ethnic team in a culturally appropriate manner.

Time / Dates of Availability:
Spring, Summer, Fall & Winter 2016 cycles; minimum 6 weeks – maximum 4 months
