BU Undergraduates: Preparing Your Graduate Application

Resources for Current Boston University Undergrads

As you consider a graduate or professional degree at Boston University, use the questions and tips below to prepare for the application process. 

    What are my options for graduate and professional study? 

    • Are you thinking about graduate school because you want to advance your professional skills, test the waters for future academic study, need to fulfill a professional credential (i.e. licensure, etc.), or have a love of learning in a particular? BU offers a wide range of graduate programs; start to align your interests with what BU can offer you.
    • Once you’ve determined your preferred area of study, start researching how and when these programs are offered. Start here – we’ve curated a list of programs that align with students just finishing their undergraduate degree.
    • How do you want to take your classes? Many of BU’s master’s and professional degree programs allow students to take classes during the evenings, on weekends, and online. Don’t see the program you have in mind? Perhaps you’re considering a different area of study, or maybe you’re considering a doctoral or certificate program. Explore the full list of BU graduate and professional programs to see all available options. 

    How do I prepare my application? 

    If you’re ready to apply to a BU graduate program, head on over to our program finder. Once you locate your program through the search and click to learn more, you will be directed to the appropriate school and college website. For graduate and professional programs, you apply directly to one of BU’s 17 schools and colleges (e.g. College of Communication); this is different from your undergraduate experience, where there was one application for Boston University.  

    Once you land on the school/college website, take time to explore and learn more. Individual academic departments can also be very valuable in your research. Not only will this help you determine if this is the right program for you, but it will help prepare you for the application process. Details such as program structure, required courses, and application deadlines will all be unique to the individual program.
