From Streets to Systems: Exploring the Latest on How Transportation Shapes Our Cities

Why can't we get new trains? How is transit related to city planning and development? Where are the bike lanes? How do people move around, and how does that matter from a policymaking perspective?

In collaboration with the City Planning & Urban Affairs Program (CPUA) at Metropolitan College (MET), the "Transportation & the City" series is dedicated to transit matters, from policymaking to design. In the past couple of years, the IOC hosted events focusing on various aspects of transportation planning — from planning multimodal streets in Oslo, Norway, and the processes involved in revamping the current MBTA bus system, to transit-oriented development collaborations between the public and private sectors, and perspectives from past transit leaders.

The organizers, Terrance Regan, a former federal transit official at the U.S. Department of Transportation Volpe Center, and Rob DiAdamo, a former state MBTA official in charge of the Commuter Rail, bring a breadth of experience and know-how, as well as inspiring guests from the public and private sector at all levels to provide their insights to transit in cities.
