Bridge Builders was a two-year Faculty Fellows Learning Community from 2022–2024, offered by the Initiative on Cities’ MetroBridge Program and the Institute for Excellence in Teaching & Learning (formerly Center for Teaching & Learning), focused on advancing experiential learning at Boston University.
Bridge Builders is a faculty learning community where faculty:
- Engage with and learn from other faculty interested in project-based learning
- Share experiences, expertise, and insight into project-based learning barriers, techniques, and opportunities
- Inform a new curricular toolkit and training for faculty peers
Experiential Learning Faculty Toolkit
The Bridge Builders Faculty Fellows produced a toolkit of faculty resources for experiential learning. The toolkit contains the following sections and was initially published in summer 2024:
- Designing Experiential Learning: Suggested steps and guidelines for designing experiential learning to align with desired learning outcomes
- Assessment and Reflection for Experiential Learning: Guidelines for thinking about assessment in general, including sample rubrics, as well as the role of reflection in experiential learning in relation to assessment
- Partnerships in Experiential Learning: FAQ: Quick answers to common questions about integrating experiential learning into college classes
- Teamwork and Experiential Learning: A focus on how to integrate teamwork into experiential learning projects in college courses, including key considerations for supporting effective teamwork and scaffolding the learning experience throughout the semester
- Examples of Experiential Learning at Boston University: Provides a short description of experiential learning programs at BU to facilitate engagement and awareness
- Resources and Funding for Experiential Learning: Provides an overview of various resources available at BU for faculty wishing to pursue or engage in experiential learning and community engagement
