Supreme Court Update to Executive Order 13780

in Executive Order
June 29th, 2017

In a June 26, 2017 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court partially granted the government’s request to stay the court’s preliminary injunctions to Executive Order 13780.This means the 90-day ban on new visas for nationals of six countries will be enforced beginning at 8pm EST on June 29, 2017. The Supreme Court’s decision contains an important exception that upholds the injunction for individuals “who have a credible claim of a bona fide relationship with a person or entity in the United States.” Please see the ISSO EO Travel Advisory for more details regarding this exception. We expect international students and scholars from these 6 countries should continue to be able to travel to the US with valid visas during this time and to be exempt from the 90-day bar on new visa applications but we encourage them to contact their ISSO advisor for more guidance if travelling over the summer.
