Courses, some new, some tried and true
We have an exciting line-up of courses on offer this fall, and nearly all are open to students from all BU schools and colleges, without prereqs.
New courses this semester: CASRN326 Jewish Mystical Movements and Modernization, 1492-2000, taught by Hillel Levine, and CASRN336 The Heretical Jew, team-taught by Adam Seligman and Abigail Gillman.
If you want to learn more about Judaism in general or if you know a lot about Jewish tradition and practice but want to look at it from a scholarly perspective for a change, CASRN216 Judaism is the course for you (taught by Jonathan Klawans).
If you are interested in contextual and comparative approaches to the study of Jewish text and tradition, check out David Frankfurter’s Varieties of Early Christianity (yes, that’s a topic in the study of Judaism and it will count toward your minor in Judaic Studies), or Diana Lobel’s Sacred Texts of World Religions, and remember: it’s not just what you study but how you study!
For questions on any of these and our other courses, write to mzank@bu.edu.
