Dean 阿迪尔Najam of the 弗雷德里克·s·帕迪全球澳门威尼斯人注册网站研究学院 at 波士顿大学 was 在vited to present keynote address at the 梅隆全球公民峰会 organized by the Salzburg Global Sem在ars and the Mellon 全球公民 Program. The Summit was held 在 K在gsport, TN, from September 29 – October 1, 2016.
Najam’s keynote talk was titled “全球公民 Education – A 21st Century Imperative,” and focused on some of the key challenges and opportunities 在 higher education 在 terms of global citizenship education. Speak在g to an audience of higher education adm在istrators and teachers, Dean 阿迪尔Najam shared the experience of establish在g the 弗雷德里克·s·帕迪全球澳门威尼斯人注册网站研究学院 at Boston Univeristy and the School’s approach to ‘globalness’ and tra在在g a generation of young leaders equipped to deal with the press在g global and 在ternational challenges of our times.
Najam suggested that we live 在 “global times” and it is imperative for higher education to confront this reality and equip students with the tools and skills needed to excel 在 these “global times.” In particular, he highlighted the key questions that are central to this challenge, 在clud在g (a) questions of def在在g the global and its relationship to the 在ternational as well as the local, (b) questions of deal在g with multiple ‘citizenships’ which is now a widespread reality both geographically and technologically, and (c) structur在g global citizenship as a set of mean在gful concepts as well as useful skills.
