Najam Discusses Student Visa Regulations on Dawn TV

Adil Najam, Dean of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, discussed recently proposed Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) regulations on international students in a Dawn TV interview. The interview took place on July 9, 2020.

During the interview, Najam explained the implications of the regulations for students and campuses, described the BU ‘Learn from Anywhere’ plan, and highlighted the distinction between fully online and hybrid teaching models.

He also suggested that while this particular rule is likely to be challenged and will change, we should expect other regulations coming in that will impact the internationalization of higher education in general. Following Najam’s interview, the Trump Administration actually rescinded the new immigration rule that would have deported international students with F-1 visas, or required them to transfer to another school, if their university offered only remote instruction this fall. However, as Najam noted, the threat of future regulations on international students remains.

Najam’s remarks can be viewed below.
