Heine Discusses Chinese Investment in Latin America

Amb. Jorge Heine

On September 8, 2023, Amb. Jorge Heine, Research Professor at Boston University’s Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies and Interim Director of the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future shared his insights on the state of Chinese investment in Latin America. His commentary was featured in the Latin America Advisor, a reputable daily publication of the Inter-American Dialogue, a prominent Washington think tank.

Heine spotlighted Brazil’s central role in Chinese foreign direct investment in Latin America, with Brazil hosting nearly half of the region’s Chinese investments, totaling $70 billion. Despite a dip in 2022, Heine pointed out that 32 Chinese projects in Brazil signaled China’s robust interest.
