Watch Video of Photonics Town Hall Discussing the Report “Optics and Photonics: Essential Technologies for Our Nation”
The Boston University Photonics Center and the Optical Society (OSA) hosted a town hall discussion on February 22, 2013. The discussion was devoted to the National Academy of Sciences report, “Optics and Photonics: Essential Technologies for Our Nation.” In the new report, NAS identifies technological opportunities and applications in optics today from solid-state lighting, photovoltaics, manufacturing, fiber optic telecommunications, defense, displays, to diagnostic medicine. The report assesses the current state of optics worldwide from a market perspective, prioritizes a set of “grand challenge” questions to fill technological gaps, and recommends actions for development and maintenance of the field.
