Hariri Meet Our Fellows Talk Featuring Prof Palmer

Please join the Hariri Institute for Computing on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 for a Wednesday@Hariri/Meet Our Fellows event. The presentation will feature Junior Faculty Fellow Maxwell Palmer, an assistant professor in the Political Science Department. Using statistical, geographic, and simulation analyses, Maxwell explores different ways of identifying and quantifying gerrymanders and shows how these techniques vary when assessing individual districts (the micro-level) or complete plans (the macro-level). He also discusses the opportunities and challenges posed by big data in drawing and evaluating districting plans.

Additionally, the event will feature a brief research preview, given by Kinan Dak Albab, a Hariri Institute Graduate Student Fellow and PhD candidate in Computer Science (CAS). Kinan’s work provides a framework that allows integration of secure multi-party computation (MPC) into modern applications and systems.
