Research on Tap: Cancer & Microbiome (2021)

Hosted by Evan Johnson, Associate Professor of Medicine and Biostatistics and Daniel Segrè, Professor of Biology, Bioinformatics, and Biomedical Engineering

Microbial communities that live in and on the human body play a vital role in health and disease, which includes significant systems-level cross-talk and interaction between microbial and host pathways. In particular, the microbiome has become an important focus of cancer research, including its role in tumor progression, immunity, and in the efficacy of cancer immunotherapy. Yet there are still significant gaps in our understanding of the mechanisms and molecular interactions that can be used to develop more effective prevention, diagnostics, and treatment strategies. This Research on Tap event will highlight the broad range of microbiome research in cancer currently being conducted by faculty members at BU, and will help to better establish a community for interaction and support across a variety of cancer applications.
