(3/8/17) Clinical Associate Professor Joan Salge Blake describes the issue of food insecurity among older adults, citing the statistic that there has been a 27 percent increase in the number of seniors using food stamps in Palm Beach. Financial limitations are the main cause of this, but older adults also suffer from poor physical and mental health, mobility limitations, lack of access to a local supermarket and more. Despite this, Salge Blake lists the ways we can help diminish this problem, including volunteering, cooking extra food and taking older adults along when shopping.
