Dear SPH Community,
I am writing to inform you about an unfortunate incident that occurred on Friday between 1 and 2 PM. An employee’s wallet, containing credit cards and cash, was stolen from their office, which had been left ajar. As a result, multiple unauthorized transactions were made using the employee’s BU card. The Boston University Police Department (BUPD) is actively investigating the situation and working to identify the perpetrator.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of building security. The SPH buildings are on swipe card access for a reason, and it is crucial that no one enters our premises without a proper ID.
To help ensure the physical safety and security of everyone on campus, we urge you to follow these important tips:
- Always keep your office door closed and locked when unattended.
- Do not allow anyone to follow you into the building without swiping their own ID card.
- Report any suspicious individuals or activities immediately to BUPD.
- Ensure personal belongings, including wallets, laptops, and phones, are secured and not left in plain sight.
- Familiarize yourself with the nearest exits and emergency procedures.
- If you feel unsafe at any time, contact BUPD at 617-353-2110 or use the university’s safety escort services.
Your vigilance and cooperation are critical in maintaining a safe and secure environment for all.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Best regards,
Ira
