Professor Hyeouk (Chris) Hahm will share her expertise at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Listening Session during a Town Hall to be held on January 21, 2022.  During the sessions, panelists will share their experiences, observations, opinions, and feelings about the facilitators and barriers to funding success for minoritized NIMH grant applicants, including those from racial and ethnic groups underrepresented in biomedical, clinical, behavioral, and health services research on a national basis.  The goal of the sessions is to help inform the NIMH’s actions to promote funding equity and help staff and others involved in the scientific enterprise to understand the perspectives of members of the extramural scientific community.

Professor Hahm will present as an established investigator during the 3:00 pm session.

Participants will share their perspective on topics relevant to funding equity from their perspective including the NIH/NIMH peer review process; interactions with NIMH program staff; resources and support at your home institution; training, mentoring, and networking; the impact of competing career demands and the “Minority Tax;” challenges unique to your scientific area or career stage; alignment of your research area or research approaches/paradigms with NIMH/NIH priorities; structure, timing, and communication of NIH/NIMH funding opportunity announcements, etc.

The event is open to NIMH staff, other stakeholders, and the public.
